Editorial Intern

BizTools.com, a division of Houston-based Administaff, is a Web site that delivers critical information to small and medium-size business owners and entrepreneurs. We provide articles, information and critical reviews of different products business owners can use. We’re searching for interns that are looking to expand their writing and research skills. The intern’s primary tasks will be researching products and developing content for the site, as well as participating in editorial planning. In addition to writing and research, daily work will also include light copyediting and creating online screencasts of different product reviews.

We’re looking for someone who’s eager to learn the ins and outs of creating a Website. The ideal candidate is someone who’s efficient and adept at working on multiple projects at once. Candidate must be accurate, a quick learner, and a clear and concise communicator. Being Internet savvy is a must.

Learning experience
· The intern will gain real-life experience in the creation of a Web site.
· The intern will also learn how to write in accordance to AP-style and will develop their editorial voice.
· Intern will learn how to interview someone for an article and what to look for when writing an article.
· Hands-on experience in Web reporting. As the industry moves toward a Web-focused model, students will gain experience in writing for a Web site.
· Valuable clips can be built for their portfolio in the form of articles written for the site. When looking for a job, journalists are usually asked to present their published articles, therefore gaining as many published pieces of content becomes important for someone starting out in the industry.

Qualifications needed
· Must be in a college or higher education degree program.
· Prior writing experience is a plus.
· Quick learner.
· Able to meet deadlines.
· Web savvy
· Prior experience with Web programs also a plus.
