Position Description:Since 1976, The Woman s Hospital of Texas has been the state s premier facility dedicated solely to the care of women and newborn infants. More women choose to have their babies at The Woman s Hospital of Texas than at any other hospital in the Houston area or Texas Medical Center. Over 9,300 babies are born here every year. The Woman s Hospital offers care for normal pregnancies to high risk pregnancies and has the technological and medical expertise to provide exceptional care to the mothers and babies who are our patients. The hospital is an acute-care hospital near the Texas Medical Center with 397 licensed beds offering a full range of medical services exclusively for women and infants.
Even though every woman plans to have a normal pregnancy, existing health problems or unexpected complications may put mother and baby at risk. The Woman s Hospital of Texas always has a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, anesthesiologist, respiratory therapist and board-certified neonatologist at the hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Woman s Hospital also has an exceptional and nationally renowned team of perinatologists.
POSITION SUMMARY:
To administer, analyze and appraise the care given to patients in the NICU by Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. To anticipate and estimate future needs of the department to improve quality of patient care. Function as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education of individual members of NNP and nursing staff with a focus on promoting clinical competence. To collaborate and coordinate the efforts of the staff of the department to accomplish the mission of The Woman s Hospital of Texas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Develops and administers services as necessary to include management of the critically ill neonate.
2. Promotes a multidisciplinary coordination of services, such as nursing, medical, respiratory care, laboratory pharmaceutical and public relations.
3. Participates in budgetary formulation and control for areas of responsibility in collaboration with the Nicu Director.
4. Administer and appraise Process Improvement within the services provided.
5. Control processes related to Human Resources; inclusive of hiring, evaluating, terminating, counseling, coaching, and development of staff.
6. Directs and approve NNP practice with the services provided to maintain quality patient care through implementation and evaluation of clinical practice protocols.
7. Develop, interpret, inspect and review policies and procedures within the services provided.
8. Responsible for twenty-four hour coverage and problem resolution to the services provided.
9. Coordinate Neonatal Transport Program.
10. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
REQUIRED: MSN
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
REQUIRED: Current licensure in Texas as an RN and Advanced Practice Nurse, NRP, S.T.A.B.L.E.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
PREFERRED: Unit specific experience; Minimum of five (5) years of NNP practice with emphasis on leadership and management experience.
